Churmundo or Churmi Laddu is a famous Konkani GSB recipe which is prepared during most of the festivals. These wholesome delicious Laddus are made with very less ingredients and is a best sweet to prepare at home during all special occasions. It is made by roasting wheat powder with ghee and then adding sugar. That’s all you have to do to munch this awesome laddus. The North Indian version of this sweet is made by adding jaggery, seasame seeds then dipped in dry coconut powder. We have presented the simple South Indian version of Churma Laddoo.

Hello all, presenting one more Konkani Recipe “Churmundo” on my blog. This sweet is also called “Pitti Undo” at our place while rest people call it “Churmi Laddu”. I personally didn’t prepare this sweet until I got married. But at my husband’s place, during Ganesh Chathurthi all the women of our family prepare this sweet along with many other sweets, that is where  I got to learn how to make churmundo.Sneha Rithesh KamathFew suggestions I would like to give is don’t add extra ghee. Take wheat flour and ghee in mentioned proportion. Add powdered sugar only after flame is lit off. Make Laddus when the mixture is still hot. Once it cools down then it is bit difficult to shape laddus. You can also add cashew nuts and pistachios to make this sweet have rich texture.

Churmundo | Churmi Laddu | Wheat Laddu

Ingredients
  

  • 400g (2 cups) Wheat Flour
  • 300g (1.5 cup) Sugar finely powdered
  • 200g (1 cup) Ghee
  • 10g (1 tsp) Cardamom Powder
  • 25g (2 tsp) Dry Raisins

Instructions
 

  • Take 200g Ghee in a bowl (1 cup approx) and put 3-4 tsp ghee out of it in a hot pan
  • Put 2 tsp dry raisins and roast it. Then keep it aside.
  • Pour the remaining ghee to the pan and heat it. Don't use excess ghee.
  • Once the ghee is hot add 2 cups (400g) of wheat flour
  • Roast it on a medium flame till the raw smell of wheat flour goes off. You can smell the roast aroma once it is done.
  • Now add half tsp cardamom powder and mix it well
  • Now switch off the flame and allow the pan to cool for a minute. Do not completely cool it. Now add one and half cup powdered sugar (300g) to it.
  • Mix it well
  • Add the roast raisins to the mixture. Adding raisins is optional. You can avoid this if you want.
  • Now knead all the ingredients. See that the mixture is still hot. Wear gloves if you can't resist heat.
  • Now make spherical balls to form Laddus. Repeat it for rest of the mixture.
  • Delicious, tasty Churmundo is ready.

Notes

  • The shelf time of this sweet is about 1 week to 10 days. Do not refrigerate it, just store in a air tight container.
  • You can make plain laddus without adding any dry fruits.
  • If you are fond of dry fruits then you can add raisins, cashew, almonds, pistachios. Just roast it in the beginning as shown.
